Scuderia Non Originale
"It would be a drab world without meaningless social aggregations.
There would be a lot fewer smiles." Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
SNO was founded by a group of Alfisti in October of 2004, at the annual Concorso Italiano in
Monterey, CA.
The charter
members live in the San Francisco Bay Area, mostly in the region south
of San
Francisco widely known as Silicon Valley. They include
three engineers
(Tom Sahines, Richard Lane and Ben Lamprecht), an
auto parts manager and former Alfa mechanic (Steve Smith),
a former Yahoo web wizard who now works for the
government (Ted Williams), and former business owner turned lay-about (Gary Williams).
Cars
include
several GTV's & GTA's, an
assortment of Giuliettas, a Junior Zagato, a Giulietta Spider race car, a Milano Verde,
a stunning Turbo
Alfetta GTV, and an ever growing list of other Alfas, Panteras, Ferraris, Maseratis, and
other Italian makes.

There are only two requirements to belong to this group:
(1) You must be more enamored with Italian cars than is emotionally or financially healthy, and
(2) You must not be offended by fellow enthusiasts who change the wheels on their cars, modify
mechanical systems, or make other changes, such as painting their cars non-stock colors.
Other than the two points noted above, there are NO rules, NO meetings, NO dues,
NO activities, and NO reasons for joining.
That said, in early December of 2004 we opened the group to our first new members: Antonio, who lives in
Milano, and now -- by
virtue of being our only member in Italy -- heads the
Italian branch office; Russ Turner, who like Antonio was the first member in
his country, and thus becomes head of the Texas branch; and Richard Banks, first to
join from England, heading the U.K. branch.
More continue to join as word
gets out about our exceptional NO benefits. You'll find their names listed below in order of
membership.
While our focus was initially on Alfa Romeo, in December of 2004 Russ began our
Ferrari group, which goes under the logo shown
below. The Pantera and DeTomaso groups began in July of 2005, after a
mention of Scuderia NO in the San Jose Mercury News.
If Richard Lane has looked at this page as of July 2005, he now knows he heads
the Maserati group, by virtue of being a SNO founder
and owning the beautiful Ghibli that parks next to his GTV.
Now that we've drafted Richard to head the Maserati chapter, we're looking for
representatives from Lamborghini, Abarth, Fiat, Lancia, and
other missing Italian makes.
Having a Lambo group is especially desirable, because the bull logo is
such a good fit with
Scuderia Non Originale. For now at least, we are
not accepting non-Italian marques to
Scuderia
Non Originale.
A motto for the group has been proposed: Andiamo Lesti Fumando Assai (We
go fast,
making much smoke!). Some would like to see us adopt
a less deprecatory motto.
Others think Andiamo Lentimente Fumando Assai is
more appropriate (We go slowly,
spewing smoke). A new entry shows the high intellectual
level of the group and has promise:
Veni Vidi Veloce (I came, I saw, I went fast).
We'll keep you posted with any late-breaking
decisions from the rules committee, once we appoint one, but
since we don't like NO rules
and we don't hold NO meetings, it may be a long wait.
On the other hand, if enough of us congregate
at Concorso Italiano, and those
who can't attend weigh in via e-mail, we might
just select a motto this coming August.
Sincerely,
Gary
Williams
Charter member of Scuderia Non Originale

rules and -- though
you have no idea why -- you'd like to become a member.

to attach a digital photo or two, we'll put them on the web
site.
